In Kirtland Cutter's plans, this space was designed as the auditorium, and served that function for many years. It was also the main community center, with both the Congregational and the Catholic churches holding their services here until they built their own churches in the 1950's. In the late 1960's the space was divided into two class rooms with a hall between, where two beams are overhead. In 1991, we removed the walls and began installing our theater. With the exception of lights and curtains funded by a Block grant, this entire room, including the 16 foot stage revolve (which has since been removed), was done by volunteers, largely with donated materials. Over the years we have been fortunate enough to receive several grants that have allowed us to put in a new self-sealing stage floor, add additional lights, install an improved sound system, and add an enhancement system for the hearing impaired. The theatre contains 156 permanent seats. This area is also used, along with The Green Room and main halls, as space for conferences, weddings, parties and events of all kinds.

The Cutter produces several shows a year with local actors and directors. Above is a photo from "Oklahoma", our summer musical in 2005.
We also put on a local talent show each year in May called "The Valley Ballyhoo". Below is a picture of some singers in our first year, 2007. The money from this show funds a $500 scholarship for a local student continuing their education in the visual or performing arts.
Kids are very important here at The Cutter. Every January we host The Missoula Children's Theatre, who come and train our local children to perform in a musical play. Below are photos from "Robin Hood" in 2006. In one week they teach the kids all their lines and songs, and they put on two performances for the public at the end of the week. The kids love it! Most of them come back year after year to participate in this event.
